Savia encompasses a group of companies focused on businesses that are strategically positioned to capture value throughout the food chain.

Savia, through its subsidiaries Seminis and Bionova, is a world leader in the development, production and marketing of seeds for fruits and vegetables.  It is also a principal distributor of fresh fruits and vegetables in North America.  Its operations extend to 120 countries and employ nearly 8,000.  Annual sales are approximately $800 million (U.S.)

Savia’s companies participate directly and indirectly in distinct areas of the agroindustrial sector.  This diversity has given Savia the ability to strategically position itself to capture value in each of the stages of the food chain.

Technology plays a central role in Savia’s strategy and, through its affiliates, the company owns advanced technology for the agricultural sector.  Although this technology is fundamental as a technical platform for traditional hybridization, a speciality in which it dominates on a world scale, the firm has also been strengthened in the area of improving the genetics of fruits and vegetables and is ready to participate in this sector as soon as the markets require this category of products. Almost none of the products marketed by Savia’s affiliates have been developed using genetic modification and, in fact, only 0.2% of its sales are provided by products of this nature.

Savia’s portfolio also includes Desarrollo Inmobiliario Omega, a company dedicated to the development of real estate projects in northern Mexico.  Among its many assets are some of the most attractive residential development properties in the country.

Savia is listed on NYSE (VAI) and on the Mexican Stock Exchange (SAVIA A).  Capital gains are not taxed on the Mexican stock market making Savia one of the few global companies able to offer this benefit to its investors.
